Bedale is a small market town in the heart of North Yorkshire and is where Bedale Beck flows from the eastern edge of Wensleydale through the town on its journey to the River Swale.
The cobbled streets of the town are home to shops selling jewellery, antiques and gifts as well as two renowned butchers and there is a weekly market on Tuesday, a tradition dating back to the granting of a market charter to the town in 1251.
Unusual sights include the Leech House, a Georgian building where medicinal leeches were stored, and the 14th century market cross. There is also a small museum located at Bedale Hall telling the story of the town.
Bedale is only two miles from the A1, making it easily accessible from the north and south. There are bus connections from Northallerton where there is a mainline train station served by LNER trains from London and Edinburgh. The Wensleydale Railway heritage line stops at Bedale station offering you a different way to travel to Northallerton or Leyburn.
